We saw Giani at the our gate one day, downcast and quiet. Together with his wife and two children, he’s a hardworking man we’ve supported over time. But this time, he needed more than food. With tears in his eyes, he told us his mare had died. For Giani, the horse was his only “wealth” – the only way he could earn a living. He collected scrap metal, gathered firewood, and helped others with different jobs. Without the horse, his family has no income. He has two children. A little girl who does well in school, and a boy whose only wish is to go to school. Unfortunately, due to a health issue, the boy has missed several years of school.
Thankfully, someone in the village was moved by his story and lent him a horse for a few weeks. With this borrowed horse, Giani worked tirelessly to save money for a new one. With this horse, he managed to collect scrap metal and earn some money to support his family. We tried to motivate a few friends and partners, and we succeeded in raising the amount needed for him to buy that horse. We turned the borrowed horse into a horse of hope for Giani and his family. We bought this horse and gave it to him as a gift.
